Fairlop commandments
1. I'm going racing to have fun!
2. A mad driver is a bad driver!
3. The Marshal did not crash, I did!
4. I have to slow down to go fast.
5. The more I relax the better I drive.
6. Don't take this so serious after all you’re racing toy cars.
7. Be a good loser and more importantly a good winner.
8. Watch my mouth.
9. Put your rubbish in the bins
10. If I can't follow these rules I should stay at home.
When on the Drivers stand
1. Most importantly, to prevent unnecessary damage to your/their car. If for some reason your car dies in a bad spot and a marshall isn't nearby, Immediately Shout "DEAD CAR IN (location on track - such as "MAIN STRAIGHT")" loud enough for other racers to hear.
2. If you loose control of your car (have a RUN OFF) Shout "RUN OFF" to alert others/marshals on the track.
3. Never leave you car in the middle of a lane parked (Especially the front Straights, other cars will take you out and damage your/their car and ruin your/their day, they will not be smiling with you!).
4. Racers should stay off the throttle when waiting to be marshalled, you are doing more harm than good to your engine, and it will be running lean, as there is no fuel coming from the tank. If you rev your engine it will run out of fuel faster. Marshals will not pick up a car that is on the throttle, it’s just too dangerous.
5. Be Courteous to other drivers:
- Don’t lean forward or stick out your arms and obscure the view of the track.
- Allow enough space (for other racers to stand).
- Try to keep profanity to a minimum
- If you screw up.....let the driver know you're sorry......otherwise it looks like you did it on purpose!
6. Sometimes the Marshall might have missed your car.....or may be distracted watching the race. Yelling may get his/her attention but most probably if there are other cars around him/her the marshal may not hear you at all! Any attempt to yell particular instruction to the marshal is probably in vain. Basically use your own judgement but keep profanity to a minimum.
Racing Etiquette
1. If you are an obviously slower car, or are being lapped; don’t fight the position to a faster car:
Hold your line until you can get to a safe place at which you can go to the one side of the lane and let the other driver through.
If you did not realize a faster driver was coming behind you till it was too late, stay on your line and let him or her make the pass!
If your car is handling so poorly that it is unpredictable (e.g. zigzagging down the straight etc.) chances are you may have a problem or are using too much throttle.
On the back stretch hold the inside line (the same side as the inside of the next turn).
2. If you are a faster driver passing a slower car:
Get a feel for the abilities of the driver or the handling of his/her car (you don’t want to attempt a pass, and have him/her knock you out because he/she got nervous or his/her car was handling poorly!).
Wait for the appropriate time if the driver is a rookie or the car is not handling too well.
Otherwise........make the pass as safely as possible and remember, everyone is racing!
3. If you and the other driver are competing for position:
Hold your line and whoever's nose is ahead has the line, if you don't have it.....back off and wait for the next opportunity to pass.
Don’t push the other car out of the way.
Marshalling rules
If you don’t pay attention you may cost a racer precious time. This will not make you popular. Get to the cars as fast as you can to right them.
Don’t put your car or your foot down in front of or on top of other cars. Keep your feet and other body parts off the track unless absolutely necessary. Don't become an obstacle, you could get hurt and these things can bite.
